Frequently asked questions about racking inspections

How often must racks be inspected?

Neither the BetrSichV nor DGUV Information 208-061 sets a fixed interval for all companies. You set the interval in your risk assessment (Section 3(6) BetrSichV). EN 15635 provides guidance. In addition, there are visual checks and an assessment or extraordinary inspection after impact damage that may affect safety. I am happy to help you set a suitable interval.

Who may inspect racks?

A competent person with suitable vocational training, professional experience and recent professional activity (Section 2(6) BetrSichV, TRBS 1203). As the employer, you decide which qualification your inspector needs.

Is DGUV Rule 108-007 still valid?

No. DGUV Rule 108-007 has been withdrawn. The current publication is DGUV Information 208-061 “Storage equipment and load carriers”.

Does the warehouse have to close during the inspection?

Usually not. I inspect during operation and agree with you which areas should be kept clear for a short time.

What happens if damage is found?

You receive a clear rating with recommendations. Damaged areas must not be used until they are repaired. You commission the repair, for example from the manufacturer or a specialist company.

What does the inspection record contain?

At least the type and scope of the inspection, the result and the name and signature of the inspector (Section 14(7) BetrSichV). Keep it at least until the next inspection.

How much does a racking inspection cost?

That depends on the type and size of the installation. You receive a quotation in advance.
